Carmarthenshire focus on lap dancing clubs

Carmarthenshire County Council is consulting on whether it should adopt a stricter policy towards lap dancing clubs and similar venues.
The local authority’s public protection division is carrying out consultation on sexual entertainment venues.
Following concerns that existing legislation did not give communities sufficient powers to control Lap dancing clubs and similar premises, the Government introduced section 27 of the Policing and Crime Act 2009, which reclassifies lap dancing clubs as sexual entertainment venues and gives local authorities in England and Wales the power to regulate such venues as sex establishments.
These new powers only apply where they have been adopted by the local authority. Adopting these new provisions would ensure that the authority is able to consider a much wider range of factors should an application for this type of licence be submitted.
Currently there are no premises offering this type of entertainment within the county.
The council is required to consult local people before deciding whether or not to adopt the new powers.
In order to comment on the Proposal, respondents may first wish to refer to the consultation documents which may be viewed on the council’s website at www.carmarthenshire.gov.uk by searching for current consultations.
Responses to the consultation need to be received by December 31.
Your response should be sent to: Emyr Jones, Principal Licensing Officer, Public Protection, Social Care, Health and Housing Department, Carmarthenshire County Council, 3,Spilman Street, Carmarthen, SA31 1LE or by fax to: 01267 229141 or by e-mail to: publicprotection@carmarthenshire.gov.uk
If you require any further information regarding the consultation document, please contact the licensing section on 01267 228717. This document is also available at www.carmarthenshire.gov.uk
