Spirit of Gwendraeth event at Ffos Las
Arty crafty people in Carmarthenshire are invited to take part in a huge Medieval Festival at Ffos Las next month.
The Spirit of the Gwendraeth Valley event taking place on Saturday, July 3, is expected to attract crowds of thousands of people.
Attractions range from knights jousting and falconry displays to a family funfair, face painting, children’s entertainers and living statues.
Performances by local groups, including Burry Port Male Voice Choir, will also be staged at the event.
Castell Howell is hosting a food fair at the festival, which will take place on the concourse.
A craft fayre will be staged in the restaurant area of the main stand at the racecourse.
A number of tables have already been booked by local organisations. Invitations are now invited from individuals or groups to have a stall at the event.
Tables cost £25 for the day and any goods, apart from food, can be sold.
The aim of the festival is to celebrate the Spirit of the Gwendraeth Valley, bringing communities together and commemorating the history and heritage of the area.
It was the brainchild of Trimsaran county councillor Cllr Meryl Gravell who is helping to organise the event.
Cllr Gravell said: “The craft fayre is an opportunity for local people to show off their wares to what we hope will be huge crowds.
“We have kept the table costs really low so that they are affordable to young entrepreneurs, families or voluntary organisations.”
Funding from the Western Valleys programme is helping to pay for the event.
The Valleys – Heart and Soul of Wales is a three year campaign led by partnership organisations from the Western Valleys, Heads of the Valleys and The Valleys Partnership.
The aim is to change perceptions of The Valleys, attract more tourists and bring long-term economic benefits to the area.
Admission charges are £5 for adults and free to children in fancy dress, or £2 if not.
