Ammanford drop-in centre praised

Town leaders have hailed a new community drop-in centre in Ammanford.
The Pantyffynnon Communities First team has moved into a new town centre home.
Officers are based at the new one-stop-shop in Unit 5, Llys Glas, and give support on a whole range of community issues.
They offer help on getting back into work, setting up community organisations, obtaining funding, volunteering, area improvement schemes and debt and benefits.
Meetings rooms are available for evening courses for the community and an IT suite is also available for training purposes.
The move is aimed at making the office more accessible to people in the area.
An official opening has just been held with representatives from the County Council, local councillors and schoolchildren joining together to celebrate the work of Communities First.
Workshops, stalls and information stands were staged for people to attend.
Communities First Co-ordinator Sian Veater said: “We are really excited about the next twelve months.
“Besides the debt and benefit back-to-work surgeries offered, we are hoping to develop a centre of excellence at the premises.
“We will be developing a range of training courses for the community during evenings, and people will be able to access ICT equipment all through the week to Saturdays.”
The office is open from 9am-8pm Monday to Friday and from 9am-1pm on Saturdays.
The Welsh Assembly funded Communities First programme is aimed at helping to regenerate the most deprived communities in Carmarthenshire.
The aim is to improve the living conditions and prospects for people in the wards and ensure that funding is targeted at the poorest areas.
The team is run by Carmarthenshire County Council, and a host of events and educational activities are staged in the area every year, along with specific regeneration programmes.
The Pantyffynnon Partnership is made up of Pantyffynnon Plodders, Growing Together, Pantyffynnon Ward Action Group, Ammanford Evangelical Church, Elim Church, ABC church, Panty Teen Crew, Parcyrhun Community Association, Community Road Safety Group, Food Co-operative, and other local groups.
Regeneration Executive Board Member cllr Clive Scourfield said: “The Communities First team perform a vital role in the area and I am delighted that the team has a new first class base for its home.”
