Amman Valley project helps job-hunters
A major project is underway in the Amman Valley to help people back to work.
Residents are being given help and support on employment and training needs, preparing CVs and apprenticeships.
Communities First Pantyffynnon is behind the Debt and Benefit Back to Work scheme.
Officers are providing residents with advice on job searches, childcare, debts and benefits.
They have just launched a new weekly outreach service in a bid to engage with more people from across the area, and make the team more accessible.
Drop-in centres have been set up in Pantyffynnon, Glanaman and Brynaman.
Development Worker Kathryn Newman said: “The project is proceeding well and the team has sey up bases in community centres for community members who may need help dealing with their debts or tackling the benefits maze.
“Staff and volunteers will also be on hand to offer support on employment issues and training needs, including basic skills, CV workshops and apprenticeships.”
The drop-in services are held at the Communities First Pantyffynnon office from 10am-12 noon on Tuesdays, at Glanamman Community Centre from 10am-12 noon on Wednesdays and from 1.30pm-3.30pm on Wednesdays at the Black Mountain Centre.
Officers will also be holding structured sessions in a number of locations, with the first taking place in Ammanford Evangelical Church on July 1 from 7-9pm.
The Welsh Assembly funded Communities First programme is aimed at helping to regenerate the most deprived communities in Carmarthenshire.
The aim is to improve the living conditions and prospects for people in the wards and ensure that funding is targeted at the poorest areas.
The team is run by Carmarthenshire County Council, and a host of events and educational activities are staged in the area every year, along with specific regeneration programmes.
Regeneration Executive Board Member cllr Clive Scourfield said: “The Communities First team perform a vital role in the area and I am delighted that so much work is being carried out to support the communities of the Amman Valley.”
