Trinity stages 'Voices' conference
The 2010 Cyfrwng Conference, "Voices", is being held at Trinity University College, Carmarthen, between 13th – 14th May 2010.
During the two day conference a series of academics and practitioners will be discussing various aspects on the theme of “Voices”.
It will be a chance to hear discussion panels, to listen to academic papers, for practitioners to share their experiences and to see performers at work.
Choosing the theme of Voices gives an opportunity to touch on the various aspects of the arts and media in Wales and beyond.
Using new technologies has by now become part of everyday work for the majority and a key component of social networking.
The conference will have an opportunity to consider how these technologies give an opportunity for new voices to express themselves.
It has also become customary to read newspapers on-line, but are the demands of that medium hindering journalism?
There will be the opportunity to ponder this with commentators and practitioners in this field.
There will also be a chance to consider how the individual voice can express itself in a global market, and how specific projects are enabling the voices of various communities in Wales to express themselves.
The conference will look at how to encourage some, who have difficulty expressing themselves, to voice their aspirations.
There will be an opportunity to hear key individuals speak about the voice of art on the mass media, and to share performers' experience of expressing their voice.
A discussion on the benefit of work experience placements will give educators and practitioners a chance to come together to voice their needs.
And this is what Cyfrwng is all about – bringing together the voice of academia and the voice of industry.

During the year some crucial voices to us as a nation and especially to the members of Cyfrwng were lost.
In the conference there will be a chance to celebrate the contribution of Angharad Jones, formerly drama commissioner at S4C by means of a discussion on “the Author’s Voice”.
The voice on the history of Welsh film, Dave Berry, has also been lost and there will be an opportunity to celebrate his contribution as well.
In the conference supper on Thursday evening 13th May 2010, the trophy will be presented to the winner of the Cyfrwng Prize for 2010, and the winner of the James Thomas Prize for 2010 will be announced.
