Llanelli Reds awarded ground licence

Llanelli AFC have been informed by the Football Association of Wales, FAW, that they have been awarded both the Domestic and UEFA Licences for season 2010/2011.
This means that the Reds will now compete in the newly formed Welsh Premier League and in either the UEFA Champions League or Europa League qualifiers next season.
Eight Clubs receive the FAW Domestic Licence, Nine for UEFA.
An independent panel awarded eight clubs the FAW Domestic Club Licence, which will allow them to participate in the restructured Welsh Premier League next Season, if they also qualify on sporting merit through their League position.
The clubs to receive the Domestic Licence are;
1. Aberystwyth Town
2. Carmarthen Town FC
3. Haverfordwest County FC
4. Llanelli
5. Neath FC
6. Newtown AFC
7. Prestatyn Town
8. The New Saints FC
The other clubs who applied for the Domestic Licence, but were turned down have the right to appeal to another independent committee. Clubs will be given 10 days to submit their appeal.
The independent committee also assessed the applications for a UEFA licence today and awarded nine UEFA licenses. The UEFA licence is a pre-requisite for participation in the UEFA club competitions. These were awarded to;
1. Aberystwyth Town
2. Bangor City
3. Carmarthen Town FC
4. Haverfordwest County FC
5. Llanelli
6. Neath FC
7. Newtown AFC
8. Porthmadog
9. The New Saints FC
Following the announcement, Football Association of Wales Club Licensing Manager Andrew Howard said: "The First Instance Body was extremely diligent in their assessment of the clubs today and after a very long meeting, I am satisfied with their outcome."
"I firmly believe that some clubs will be successful on appeal and one certainly should rectify this within a matter of days."
It is the Football Association of Wales' strategy to have a Welsh Premier League consisting of 12 clubs next year with the domestic licence and Howard added, "I'm optimistic that we will attain that number."

'Class of 1980' from Burry Port enjoy reunion

There was a big class reunion held in Burry Port at the weekend. Members of the Class of 1980 from Porth Tywyn (Burry Port junior) School got together at The Coasting Pilot pub. The reunion was organised by Christine Rees and same 22 members of the original class of 28 turn up to discuss their old schooldays. One ‘Class of 1980’ member was Burry Port businessman Owain Davies. He said: “We all have very happy memories of our time in school. We had a fantastic teacher in Mr Heddwyn Jones, who now lives in Four Roads. “We were very fortunate to have the same teacher for three years and we were a very happy class. Mr Jones was an inspiring teacher and we all got on every well and we are all still good friends. “Heather Thomas (now Heather Osmond) made it from Surrey, but she was trumped by Gail Morris, who flew in from Ohio in the United States for the reunion. “It was a fantastic evening at the Coasting Pilot with good food, good wine and good company. Ammanford-based Lauryn Davey is making a major mark in the world of Welsh athletics. At just 16, she is the best all-round athlete of her age in Wales. She's chalking up Welsh championship victories and has been honoured by her club, the Carmarthen Harriers. Lauryn's been earmarked as a future international star, but knows the road to the big championships is difficult, demanding and expensive. Ammanford businessman and well-known comic entertainer Phil Evans has launched a campaign to get cash backers for Lauryn's athletics career. "Everyone in the area is hugely proud of her achievements in athletics to date," said Phil. "But we also want to see her go on and do bigger and better things.
