Trinity spread Fairtrade message


Trinity's long term commitment to Fairtrade products saw chocolate to drip down the white walls of the new café during a promotional event for Fairtrade Fortnight.
Officially recognized as a Fairtrade campus, the university college in Carmarthen uses and offers an array of Fairtrade products for students and staff to choose from and enjoy.
The aim of the event was to encourage a general “swap” towards Fairtrade products, though students and staff might have swapped their jumpers for ponchos first!
Fairtrade needed to make a splash on Trinity’s campus, though no one knew how messy that splash would be.
The morning started out quietly enough as the promotional booths found their spots among the white walls, white chairs, and white table cloths — the chocolate fountain taking centre stage.
Excitement began to build as warm milk-chocolate filled the fountain in the high-traffic Starbucks located in Trinity’s new quad.
Once turned on, the mayhem began.
The malfunctioning chocolate fountain began to spin uncontrollably and the weather inside the café quickly changed to a treacherous tornado of chocolate.
As the Fairtrade chocolate rain splattered onto everyone and everything in sight, the once calm café ignited with shrieks of laughter.
The magnificent 360 degree shower of chocolate managed to artistically decorate everything in a 10-foot radius, including the spectators.
Chocolate was sprayed with such enthusiasm, it would have made Jackson Pollock proud.
The walls, the table, the chairs, and the guests, were all decorated with decadent Fairtrade chocolate.
Although the event didn’t necessarily go as planned, it was a great success. Some attendants thought that the chocolate on the walls, and the table cloth, was actually part of the planned design.
In fact, the pantomime actually generated more buzz than anyone could have hope.
All in all, the Fairtrade chocolate fountain fiasco was a great success.
Fairtrade is an independent, non-profit organisation which facilitates a fair and ethical trading partnership between disadvantaged, developing-world farmers and consumers. By guaranteeing a premium price for these goods, consumers can invest in farmers and help them live sustainably.
