Hendy counterfeit man fined

A Hendy man has been fined for selling counterfeit clothing from an internet auction site on eBay.
Dale Alan Davies appeared before Llanelli Magistrates Court last week when he pleaded guilty to two offences under the Trade Marks Act 1994.
Robert Edgecombe, prosecuting for Carmarthenshire County Council, said the matter had come to light as a result of eBay monitoring and test purchases made from Davies. The clothes were subsequently examined and proved to be counterfeit copies of the genuine articles.
Alan Jenkins, for 43-year-old Davies, said that he honestly believed that the goods he was buying and selling on e-bay were genuine products but he accepted in hindsight that was not a reasonable belief given the information in his possession. He accepted that he should have made further enquiries.
Davies, of Llwyn Bedw Road, Hendy, was fined £320 and ordered to pay costs of £750 to the authority. All offending items of counterfeit clothing were made the subject of a confiscation order.
The council’s executive board member for housing and public protection Cllr Hugh Evans said: “Anyone who thinks they can make an easy profit by selling counterfeit goods will find themselves facing prosecution.”
