Boost for Amman United

Fans of Amman United may soon be able to watch their beloved rugby team in more comfortable surroundings, thanks in part to the County Collaboration Fund.
The Club has been granted £25,000 from the fund - a pool of money provided by Carmarthenshire County Council, Waste Recycling Environmental (WREN), CWM Environmental and the Coalfields Regeneration Trust.
The county council’s leisure department has provided a further £20,000 to the club, which has ambitious plans to transform the club.
The club has also received match-funding from the WRU and Cwmamman Town Council.
Lyn Roberts, Honorary Secretary of Amman United RFC, said: “This funding will enable us to start phase one of our very ambitious project which will be a great asset to our community.
“The overall project will transform the park in to a centre, providing the very best training and playing facilities for rugby, with internal facilities available to other sports and community organisations.
“We hope to include a shop, cafe, gymnasium and other community facilities, which will attract more visitors to the park.
“We have estimated the work at around £2 million and are targeting a number of sources of grant funding over the next three years and hope to form a partnership with the community that would ensure Cwmamman obtains the necessary funding to deliver an outstanding community facility.”
Amman United’s project is just one of many local projects that have benefitted from almost a quarter of a million pounds of funding from the County Collaboration Fund.
The fund supports voluntary community groups, registered charities, and town, rural and community councils, on projects to improve community facilities, physical environments, parks and play areas.
Community regeneration officer Sally Doughton said: “We have seen applications from many great community projects, and it is wonderful to see how communities work hard to pull match funding together. We are really pleased to be working with these organisations to drive their projects forward, and will look forward to seeing the end results.”
Deputy leader of the council, Cllr Kevin Madge, said: “I am delighted that the council and its funding partners have been able to work with Amman United to get match funding to take this exciting scheme forward. It will benefit the club and its visitors, and will also help other organisations in the future.”
