Public meetings to discuss Minafon GP Surgery arrangements
Patients of Minafon GP Surgery, serving Kidwelly, Ferryside and Trimsaran, will be able to hear first-hand about new services and ways of working at public events being held this week.
Hywel Dda University Health Board and the practice have organised meetings in each practice area to give patients a chance to learn more about the new service provision and to ask any questions.
The health board has worked closely with patients and local council representatives to ensure continued provision of services to the local community whilst there have been significant workforce challenges.
Head of General Medical Services Rachel Pompa said: “We are really looking forward to coming out to the communities to inform them about the work that has been going on, to answer any questions and to take any feedback and ideas.”
New initiatives to assist patients in accessing the right level of support will include the opportunity to see other clinicians in the practice when appropriate (for example the nurse), or have an initial telephone conversation with the GP. This service, which will be offered from Monday October 3, will allow the GP and patient to make a joint decision as to whether a face-to-face appointment is needed. Sometimes a referral can be made or administrative tasks can be progressed without the need to attend the practice.
Mrs Pompa said: “This is an additional service and we want to assure patients that they will still receive the care they need from the growing team at the surgery.”
A new Advanced Physiotherapist has also started at the practice, who will be able to deal with a lot of common musculoskeletal presentations, such as pain in your joints, like knee pain.
The Physiotherapist joins a new Nurse Manager, who has been in post for a week and is able to see and treat patients with minor illnesses such as chest infections.
