Daniel Benham, formerly Chief Financial Officer for the International Baccalaureate Organisation, has been appointed Director of Finance for Aberystwyth University.
A graduate of Imperial College London where he studied Microbiology, Daniel Benham joined the International Baccalaureate Organisation in 2006.
Prior to this Daniel had a 15 year progressive post qualification career in business with Schick Wilkinson Sword (Energizer, Pfizer and Warner lambert) and Oral B (Gillette).
During this period he held a number of director roles such as Global Finance Director (Strategic Planning) for Schick Wilkinson Sword, UK Finance Director for Wilkinson Sword and UK Finance Controller for Oral B. He trained and worked as an audit senior with Grant Thornton from 1987 to 1990.
Professor April McMahon, Vice-Chancellor for Aberystwyth University has welcomed the appointment: “I’m delighted to be able to announce the appointment of Daniel Benham as Director of Finance for Aberystwyth University. Daniel brings a wealth of experience of working in both industry and education which will be invaluable as Aberystwyth University embarks on the next phase of its development with continued improvement and investment in the student experience; the building of the £40.5m Enterprise and Innovation Campus at Gogerddan; and the redevelopment of the Old College, the spiritual home of Higher Education in Wales. I am looking forward to welcoming Daniel and working with him, as are colleagues on the University Executive Group and around the University.”
Speaking of his appointment, Daniel Benham said: “In 2006, after 15 years working in industry, I stepped away from an exclusively commercial career in order to start making more of a difference. I had a strong sense of identity with the mission of the International Baccalaureate to help create a better and more peaceful world through education. I now look forward to continuing with this work and to developing further my career in Aberystwyth University, an organization looking to build on its educational reputation in an ever changing and competitive global environment.”
A qualified teacher and Chartered Accountant, Daniel has lived and worked internationally in USA, Switzerland and Singapore for 12 years. He takes up his new post on Monday 9 March 2015.
