There’ll be divided loyalties this weekend as there are two big concert attractions in the area.
In Burry Port, the town’s male voice choir stage their annual concert on Saturday night.
While, in Llanelli, on the same night, all roads lead to Greenfield Chapel, where a First World War Centenary Concert is being staged.
The Chairman of the Burry Port Male Voice Choir Phil Barton has said his choir’s concert promises to be a treat.
The evening will include performances of traditional Welsh songs and popular tunes.
Joining the choir on stage will be Welsh soprano Catrin Aur and celebrated bass Emyr Wynne Jones.
French horn player Stephanie Rees will also be taking to the stage with accompaniment from pianist and local Burry Port hero Caradog Williams and John Evans.
Directing the performers will be seasoned musical director Ryan Lee.
Mr Lee has arranged many of the songs sung by the choir and is also the musical director of the Burry Port Operatic Society.
The concert takes place at Burry Port Memorial Hall from 7pm.
In Llanelli, the First World War Centenary Concert at Greenfield Chapel is being organised by Llanelli Rotary Club in conjunction with the Royal British Legion.
Côr Meibion Llanelli will be the star attraction alongside Llanelli ladies choir Côr Curiad.
The evening will also feature the 215 City of Swansea Squadron Royal Air Force Cadets Corps of Drums and two soloists from the ‘Rising Stars’ stable from Loud Applause productions – Keely Morgan and Jordan Williams.
The evening will include readings by Monro Walters and Robert Lloyd.
The concert will close with a ‘Tribute to the Fallen’.
In October, Côr Meibion Llanelli will feature in a Gala Concert to be held at the Christian Temple Church, Ammanford, on Saturday, October 4.
The soloist for the evening will be Trystan Llyr Griffiths.
Also on October 4, the Hywel Girls’ Choir and Hywel Boy Singers will present ‘The Town Remembers’ at St Elli Parish Church.
The Town Remembers will see the massed voices of the Hywel Choir, Llanelli CHoral Society, leading Welsh tenor Aled Hall, drummers, trumpeters and percussionists unite with dignitaries, armed forces and civilian personnel from across the community in the candelit and specially illuminated St. Elli Parish Church to re-tell the story and sacrifice of the great war through song, music, narration and multimedia - all under the acclaimed artistic baton of John Hywel Williams.
Highlights of the evening will include moments from Karl Jenkins’ Armed Man, Hymn to the Fallen, Ode to Remembrance, Last Post, Pie Jesu, The Lord’s Prayer, Abide with Me, Onward Christian Soldiers and popular sing-along songs from World War One.
