Special evening held to raise funds for special babies in Carmarthen

A Carmarthen family have raised more than £2,500 together with family and friends to say thank you to the unit that saved their daughter’s life.
Nansi Alys Howells was born just over six weeks early at Glangwili Hospital in October 2013 by emergency cesarean and spent the first weeks of her life being cared for at the Special Care Baby Unit (SCBU).
Her parents, Nerys and Brian Howells of Carmarthen, wanted to give something back to the unit in return for the fantastic care the 10 and a half month old received from the doctors and nurses.
In April 2014, Nerys and Brian arranged a Wine Tasting Evening in Bronwydd Cricket Club followed by a charity raffle and auction and raised £2,500.76 for SCBU.
Nerys said “We received a first class service from all staff at SCBU and wanted to give something back for everything that they did for us. Without them, Nansi wouldn’t be here with us today.
Brian added “We would like to thank our friends and family for all their support as well as the staff at SBCU and the maternity unit on Dinefwr Ward. The support of Fine Wines Direct and Bronwydd Cricket Club is also very much appreciated in helping us raise such an amazing amount of money."
Nerys added “We would also like to wish Gwyneth Evans a happy retirement who was a member of the team that cared for Nansi. We happened to visit the unit to present our donation on her last shift in SCBU and wish her well for the future.”
Sister Kelly Brown said “We are very grateful to Nerys and Brian for their very generous donation. We are always pleased to see our families returning to the Unit and hearing that they haven’t forgotten about the care they received. Charitable donations help us to provide above and beyond what the NHS is able to offer and everyday our patients and their families benefit from the generosity of others”.
