The countdown is well and truly on to the Côr Meibion Llanelli (Llanelli Male Voice Choir) ‘annual concert’ on Saturday, August 3.
It’s the first time for the choir to take ‘the annual’ to Y Ffwrnes theatre, although the choir members made their debut at Llanelli’s new theatre for the televised Owen Money Show for St David’s Day and followed it up with an impressive appearance in S4C’s Noson Lawen show.
“We were hugely impressed with the facilities at the theatre on the two occasions we performed there earlier this year,” said musical director Eifion Thomas.
“Our ‘annual’ is always one of the highlights of our singing year and we are hoping for a gold standard show for our many fans.”
The evening is being billed as ‘Golden Voices, Golden Harp’, with the choir being joined on stage by leading Welsh soprano Gwawr Edwards.
The second special guest for the evening will be Hannah Stone, official harpist to HRH Prince Charles, the Prince of Wales.
Mr Thomas added: “Gwawr has sung with us before and we are delighted to have her back as our soprano soloist for the evening.
“It is also a privilege to welcome Hannah Stone to the Llanelli stage and she has a truly international reputation as a world-class harpist.
“The programme for the evening will include many of the items we are rehearsing for our forthcoming Côr Meibion Llanelli CD.”
On July 20, the choir will be singing at a special ceremony at Sandy Water Park to mark the erection of the old Stradey Park rugby posts at the park.
Côr Meibion Llanelli will also be taking part in a glamorous evening with the stars in Ffwrnes in November.
The concert will be in aid of Wales’s pancreatic cancer charity Amser Justin Time.
Shan Cothi, who set up the charity in memory of her late husband, will be headlining the evening, which takes place on November 16.
Shan will be joined by popular baritone Mark Llewelyn Evans, who will be performing some songs from his new album This Guy’s In Love.
The pair and Côr Meibion Llanelli will be joined by the young up-and-coming musical theatre star Samuel Morris.
Sam is a 17-year-old sixth form student at Ysgol Strade, and played the role of Marius in SA15 Stage School’s production of Les Miserables to great acclaim earlier this year.
Llanelli’s Hywel Girls’ Choir and Hywel Boy Singers will enjoy two performances at the magnificent St. David’s Hall Cardiff later this year.
They will star in the Wales Festival of Remembrance in November and in the Christmas Spectacular at St. David’s Hall Cardiff in December in aid of Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research.
