Brewer expands on the back of international brewing awards success

International award-winning brewer Evan-Evans is set to expand, with further development at the firm's Llandeilo brewery site.
A planning application (first submitted more than a year ago) has been lodged with Carmarthenshire Council.
The application is for two new buildings at Rhosmaen Street, Llandeilo - one to house a new down-stream process block and the other to take a new bottling hall.
If the planning application is successful, six new jobs will be created.
Simon Buckley, Chief Executive of the Evan-Evans brewery, said:
"After almost a year of procrastination and wilful frustration by the planning department, it seems we are now somewhat closer to getting planning permission for these sheds.
"A year ago, the council turned down the planning application on the grounds that the sheds had wrinkly tin roofs. Utter nonsense, particularly when the council's own school buildings have the same roof finish.
"Once the sheds are built, we will create six new jobs across the business and we will develop the bottling business as a major contract bottling operation.
"As a result of the council's previous refusal, we lost a major contract with major supermarket chain Waitrose and we were not able to develop the site and create jobs.
"It is probably right and proper that 'Central Government' in the form of the Welsh Government is right to look at the planning process in relation to the development of brown field sites such as ours.
"It is vitally important to the local economy that the opportunity to expand is not held back by council officers who often appear to have some hidden agenda."
The brewing company is also set to submit a further planning application for a cider mill, to be built late 2013, early 2014.
Mr Buckley added: "There is huge demand for our beers, and we need space. Let's hope that the planning committee members will drive this through for the benefit of the community, and let us get on with the job of brewing beer and creating jobs.
"We employ 65 people in the business and this will go up to more than 70 by June if the sheds are granted planning permission."
It's been a good start to 2013 for the Evan-Evans brewery.
Evan-Evans has been voted the top organic beer brewer in the world at the Brewing Industry International Brewing Awards 2013.
The awards are often known as the brewing Oscars and represent the pinnacle of brewing excellence.
Judged by 40 brewers from around the world, this is the ultimate brewing competition - brewers judged by brewers.
Evan-Evans won the coveted Bronze medal in the Best Bitter category in 2011, but this year triumphed in the event, winning the Gold medal for organic beers.
