Professor Norman Davies to deliver the David Davies Memorial Lecture
The David Davies Memorial Institute (DDMI), which forms part of the Department of International Politics at Aberystwyth University, is delighted to announce that the internationally esteemed historian Professor Norman Davies will give the 2012 Annual Lecture.
Professor Davies will be the latest in a long line of distinguished lecturers since the series began in 1954.
Professor Davies retired in 1996 from the School of Slavonic Studies, University of London, but remains extremely active in writing and public debate.
At present, he is Professor at the Jagiellonian University, Cracow, an Honorary Fellow of St Antony's College, University of Oxford, and a life member of Clare Hall and Peterhouse at the University of Cambridge. He is a Fellow of the British Academy.
In his early career, Professor Davies specialized on the history of Poland, but subsequently has made decisive contributions to our understanding both of British history and that of Europe as a whole.
His latest book, which has been greeted with critical acclaim, is Vanished Kingdoms: The History of Half-Forgotten Europe (2011).
The 2012 DDMI Annual Lecture will take place at 6.00pm on Thursday 1 November 2012, in the Old Hall of the Old College at Aberystwyth University. This is a public lecture. All are welcome.
Professor Davies’ lecture is entitled ‘Is the European Union a Vanishing Kingdom?’ It promises to be a major statement by one of the leading historians of our times.
