Spectacular light and sound show planned for Llanelli
A one-time-only spectacular light and sound show is being staged in Llanelli town centre early next year.
The event is one of the public art projects being delivered through the ADREF environmental improvement programme, funded by the European Regional Development Fund through the Welsh Government and Carmarthenshire County Council.
It will include photographs, memories, music and memorabilia from local people and groups which will all be put together for the show.

The event will take around three hours, people will be able to stay for the whole show or just see small sections of it.
People can upload material onto the website to be part of the ‘LightingUpTime’ project, a ‘Son et Lumiere’ show, which is being created by externalGalleries artists’ Andy McKeown and Peter Walker, and musician David Harper.
Drop-in sessions are also taking place at the Showcase in Stepney Street on Monday, October 29, and Tuesday, October 30, between 11am and 3pm.
People can call in for more information, or with any items or photographs which staff will help to upload.
On the night, there will be a tickertape running with the names of all those who have contributed to the show.
It is anticipated that hundreds of people will share their memories for the display, groups such as bands or choirs can provide music and singing, and the Llanelli Star will be uploading some of its front pages covering many decades.
The project aims to both reinforce and celebrate a sense of community and place in Llanelli.
Carmarthenshire County Council Leader Cllr Kevin Madge said: “LightingUpTime will illuminate the past, present and future Llanelli as seen through the eyes of its residents.
“The work will be displayed for one night and will aim to enliven Llanelli Town Centre through a visual feast of light, sound and a reflection of true collaboration between art and the community.
“It will be great to see the new town centre square being brought to life in such an unusual and exciting way.”
Although ‘LightingUpTime’ will be a one off unique event, all the material will be archived and available to the public, and further displays could happen in the future.
Artist Peter Walker said: “We are delighted with the response so far and with the openness of the community and the generosity shown to the externalGalleries team.
“We hope that a large number of local people get involved with this opportunity to meet with us and we hope the local community will be pleased with the works progression and presentation.”
The work presented and produced by both the artists and the community members will culminate in the live event and large-scale projections on buildings throughout Llanelli Town Centre in late January or early February. The exact date is to be announced shortly.
