Carmarthenshire County Council has already made its mark by being the leading authority in Wales for the greatest financial and carbon savings.
According to funding company Salix, the council’s invested returns show an annual saving of over £217,000 and a lifetime saving of over £4million.
The council’s executive board member for sustainability Cllr Jim Jones said: “We have a whole range of works underway at County Hall and our other buildings which already has seen benefits on our energy investments.
“We are thrilled to become the leading council in Wales on our investment returns and savings under the Salix programme.
“These projects would not be possible without the combined efforts of a multi-disciplinary team within the authority’s Property Services division.
“We take our commitment to energy efficiency very seriously, as this not only helps us to make the most of our resources in times of economic strain, but also helps us to work better in more comfortable and sustainable surroundings.
“By making changes at the workplace, we also hope to have inspired staff to make their own small changes at home.”
Salix is an independent, publicly funded company that provides interest-free matched funding to the public sector to invest in energy efficiency projects that will reduce energy bills and carbon emissions.
