Woman fined for dog mess
A woman has been fined for failing to clean up after her dog at Burry Port Woodlands.
Council environmental enforcement officers issued her with a fixed penalty notice of £75 for the offence.
Failure to pay could result in prosecution in the magistrates court and a fine of up to £1,000.
Executive Board Member for Environmental and Public Protection Cllr Jim Jones hopes the fine will help to get the message across that anyone caught not picking up after their pets will be fined.
He said: “Enforcement officers carry out regular patrols across the county and will not hesitate to fine people who break the law in this way.
“However, our officers cannot be everywhere at once so we are calling on residents to help us catch those responsible. One of the main reasons people don’t clean up after their dogs is because they think there isn’t a council officer watching; but if the message gets out that the general public can take direct action to report offences, dog owners are far more likely to behave responsibly.”
Enforcement officers are carrying out targeted patrols in Burry Port this week following complaints of dog fouling in the area.
