Volunteering for Health receives national recognition
Hywel Dda Health Board has recently achieved the Investing in Volunteers quality standard, in recognition of the excellent work carried out with volunteers through the Volunteering for Health project.
Investing in Volunteers is the UK quality standard for organisations involving volunteers. It aims to improve the quality of volunteering experience for volunteers and to encourage organisations to better recognise the enormous contribution made by volunteers. Investing in Volunteers is managed in Wales by Wales Council for Voluntary Action.
Volunteering for Health, which was established through Big Lottery funding, has been running for two and half years and during this time 220 volunteers have helped patients across Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion and Pembrokeshire.
Head of Volunteering Services, David Fretwell, said: “The Volunteering for Health Team, volunteers and colleagues are thrilled and very proud to have achieved the Investing in Volunteers Quality Standard.
“Achieving it demonstrates that Hywel Dda Health Board is working to best practice, managing our volunteers properly and the volunteers themselves know we are doing our best to support them in their roles to support patients in hospitals.
“It was one of the key aims of project to achieve Investing in Volunteers status, allowing us to measure our systems and practice against a nationally recognised external standard.”
The Health Board was assessed against a range of best practice standards and excelled in all aspects of working with its volunteers.
