'Toon to Town' challenge for Giles and his pals

News reaches me of an ambitious charity bike ride planned by Llanelli-born policeman Giles Evans.
Giles is planning to cycle from 'Toon to Town' - Newcastle to Llanelli!
He explains:
'Toon to Town is my brainchild. I am a serving Northumbria police officer, having transferred here in 1989 from Dyfed-Powys police, having been born in Llanelli.
'In 2010, I decided to organise a 400-mile charity cycle ride from Newcastle (Toon) to my home town of Llanelli (town).
On this challenge, I cycled alone and finished the challenge at Parc y Scarlets, the home of he Scarlets regional rugby team.
'In 2011, I decided to do it again and I was joined by colleagues Tim Mayland and Bryan Orkney, together with my brother Simon, who travelled up from Llanelli, and a friend Rob Newstead.
'Over the two previous challenges, more than £6,500 has been raised for charity.
'This year, the nominated charity is Help for Heroes and a minimum target of £10,000 in new donations has been set.
'We have also set a target of a £1,000 donation to The Ray Gravell and Friends Memorial Charitable Trust and the same to Iestyn Thomas’s Testimonial Year.
'The 2012 adventure (Toon to Town 3) will be completed by 15 riders, including the previous riders from 2011. They include serving Northumbria police officers and two support staff in a mini-bus.
'The party will leave Tyneside on Tuesday 1st May and arrive in Llanelli on Saturday 5th May.
'This year's route is longer – we have learnt that a few extra miles on quiet roads are far safer and more enjoyable than on the busy roads.
'We will also be visiting one of the rider’s daughters, who is a serving member of the Armed forces due to be deployed to Afghanistan.
'This now means it is well in excess of 400 miles cycling.
'The plan is - Day 1 Leave the 'Angel of the North' on Tuesday 1st May and ride to York Day 2; York to Nottingham Day 3; Nottingham, via Stafford to Worcester Day 4; Worcester to Brecon Day 5; Brecon to Llanelli. We will then attend Parc y Scarlets for the Scarlets v Blues game
'In order to raise these funds the team will be seeking sponsorship from individuals, collecting within supermarkets. A Scottish rugby club ( Duns RFC) have dedicated a match day to the cause and we have two social evenings planned. We have an online account for Help for Heroes as follows:
