Boost for home insulation plans
Carmarthenshire County Council’s Home Improvement Team has linked up with Domestic & General to provide loft and cavity wall insulation for privately owned and rented homes.
Domestic & General has committed to work with the council for up to two years.
It means that people can take advantage of free or reduced rate insulation to keep their homes warm, with the peace of mind of an approved contractor.
Households that benefit from having insulation can typically save around £400 a year on heating costs, as insulation helps to retain heat.
In turn, this also helps the environment, as there less carbon dioxide is emitted in to the environment.
Tenants and residents may also see their health improve as a result of a warmer home.
Studies have shown that living in a cold environment can lead to respiratory conditions, depression and anxiety.
Households who are in receipt of benefits, including Working Tax Credits and Child Tax Credits, may be able to have insulation installed free of charge, and those who do not receive benefits may be able to have insulation installed at a reduced rate.
Graham Harries, Energy Efficiency Advisor, said: “We are pleased to be bring Domestic & General on board as partners, and to have a commitment that they will work with us for up to two years.
“We are keen to show people how much they could stand to benefit from having their homes insulated, and are planning to hold awareness events in the coming weeks to show people how cheaply and easily both cavity and loft insulation can be installed.”
The Home Improvement Team and Domestic & General will be attending a Green Team event in St Peter’s Civic Hall, Carmarthen, on November 3, and will hit the town centre the following week.
Awareness events will be held in other areas in the coming weeks and months.
Cllr Hugh Evans, Executive Board Member for Housing, said: “Living in warmer homes can benefit your health, and your pocket. If you do not have your home insulated for whatever reason, please get in touch with our teams who will be happy to advise and support you.”
