Funding is being brought into the Tywi Valley to safeguard its landscape and promote its rural heritage and culture.
Canolfan Tywi Centre, based at Dinefwr Farm, Llandeilo, has secured funding through the Rural Development Plan for Wales 2007-2013 which is funded by the Welsh Government and the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development.
Further financial assistance for this project has also been provided by Carmarthenshire County Council, the Countryside Council for Wales and the National Trust.
The Canolfan Tywi Centre will be implementing the Carmarthenshire Landscape and Heritage Grant Scheme will promote the distinctiveness of rural communities by conserving the rural heritage and culture of rural Carmarthenshire.
Furthermore the aim is to protect and enhance the area’s natural environment through protecting the area’s biodiversity and improve the quality of life for rural communities, instilling a sense of place.
There are two grants available under this scheme: the Cultural Heritage Grant and the Landscape and Biodiversity Grant.
The Cultural Heritage Grant will be for amounts between £1,000 and £15,000 and is for projects relating to Culture and Heritage. It is targeted at supporting projects that promote the area’s cultural distinctiveness and exploit the underused resources and traditions of rural Carmarthenshire.
Landscape and Biodiversity Grants are for £100 - £5,000 and are available to landowners, community groups and wildlife conservation groups to implement actions that protect habitats and species identified as local priorities.
Carmarthenshire County executive board member for regeneration and leisure Cllr Clive Scourfield said: “I am delighted that this funding has been attracted to Carmarthenshire.
“It will make a great difference to safeguarding habitats and wildlife, and in promoting the area’s culture and heritage. I would encourage landowners and local groups to take advantage of this excellent scheme by applying for grants.”
