It's National Poop Scoop Week - oh yes!

Dog owners in Carmarthenshire are being urged to pick up after their pets.
Carmarthenshire County Council is supporting National Poop Scoop Week 2011 which is being held from July 25-31.
Run by the Dogs Trust, the aim is to remind dog owners to pick up after their dog and help clean up our public spaces. While the majority of dog owners are responsible and pick up after their dog, a careless few are still giving dogs a bad name.
If you don’t pick-up after your pet you could get a fixed penalty notice of £75 or face prosecution in court and a maximum fine of £1,000.
The council’s ‘Poop Scoop’ team will be out and about next week to raise awareness of dog fouling and its consequences.
They will be at the Millennium Coastal Park, North Dock, Llanelli, on Tuesday, July 26; Pendine beach car park on Thursday, July 28; and Llansteffan car park on Friday, July 29 between 11am and 2pm with information and advice and free poop bags.
Executive Board Member for the Environment Councillor Philip Hughes said: “The council is determined to stop the problem of dog fouling and improve the environment for both residents and visitors to Carmarthenshire.
“By taking part in National Poop Scoop Week we can remind dog owners of their responsibilities and the consequences of not cleaning up after their pet.
“Dog mess left anywhere is a serious health risk and can cause epilepsy, asthma and even blindness. This type of anti-social behaviour will not be tolerated and those caught breaking the law in this way will be prosecuted.”
Dog owners are being urged to always keep a supply of plastic bags near their dog's lead so they don’t forget when they go out for a walk.
Remember you can dispose of the bag in any public litter bin (not just litter bins specifically for dog mess) but please double bag it!

'Class of 1980' from Burry Port enjoy reunion

There was a big class reunion held in Burry Port at the weekend. Members of the Class of 1980 from Porth Tywyn (Burry Port junior) School got together at The Coasting Pilot pub. The reunion was organised by Christine Rees and same 22 members of the original class of 28 turn up to discuss their old schooldays. One ‘Class of 1980’ member was Burry Port businessman Owain Davies. He said: “We all have very happy memories of our time in school. We had a fantastic teacher in Mr Heddwyn Jones, who now lives in Four Roads. “We were very fortunate to have the same teacher for three years and we were a very happy class. Mr Jones was an inspiring teacher and we all got on every well and we are all still good friends. “Heather Thomas (now Heather Osmond) made it from Surrey, but she was trumped by Gail Morris, who flew in from Ohio in the United States for the reunion. “It was a fantastic evening at the Coasting Pilot with good food, good wine and good company. Lauryn Davey is making her mark in athletics - but needs sponsors

Ammanford-based Lauryn Davey is making a major mark in the world of Welsh athletics. At just 16, she is the best all-round athlete of her age in Wales. She's chalking up Welsh championship victories and has been honoured by her club, the Carmarthen Harriers. Lauryn's been earmarked as a future international star, but knows the road to the big championships is difficult, demanding and expensive. Ammanford businessman and well-known comic entertainer Phil Evans has launched a campaign to get cash backers for Lauryn's athletics career. "Everyone in the area is hugely proud of her achievements in athletics to date," said Phil. "But we also want to see her go on and do bigger and better things.
