Gŵyl y Gwendraeth dates for your diary
Menter Cwm Gwendraeth’s month-long festival Gŵyl y Gwendraeth will soon be underway.
Menter Cwm Gwendraeth has drawn up a new programme for Gŵyl y Gwendraeth 2011 which is held throughout the valley over the course of May and features events that are aimed at bringing local community groups of all ages together to celebrate the modern and traditional culture of Wales.
Gŵyl y Gwendraeth attracts about 5,000 people.
Residents of the Gwendraeth Valley were asked to put forward their ideas for how they would like to see the festival develop.
The events include the showing of a film on orchids at Neuadd Llangyndeyrn on Tuesday May 3, a memorial walk by Kidwelly Castle on Saturday May 7, a treasure hunt from Pontyates on Sunday May 11, and Mynyddgarreg Eisteddfod in Neuadd Mynyddgarreg on Friday May 13.
Other events include a lecture by Dr Mererid Hopwood in Neuadd, Bethesda, Tumble on Wednesday May 13, a film on Patagonia, choral concerts, village quiz, WI Olympics, Welsh folk music night, comedy and sports.
