International Rotary Day

Today is International Rotary Day and members of Llanelli Rotary Club will be explaining their work at a stand at the St Elli Centre, Llanelli.
Some facts and figures -
£62,000 - Llanelli Rotary Club’s contribution to the Foundation charity, the international Rotary movement’s own charity fund.
£149,859 – the amount Llanelli Rotary has raised for charities (at home and abroad) since 1990.
33,000 – the number of Rotary clubs in more than 200 countries.
1.2 million – the number of men and women who donate their expertise, time, and funds to support local and international projects that help people in need and promote understanding among cultures.
106 – the number of years Rotary has been operating. It was founded in Chicago in 1905.
2.1 billion – the amount in US dollars which the Rotary Foundation has awarded in grants, which are administered at the local level by Rotary clubs.
800 million – the amount in US dollars that Rotary International has contributed to PolioPlus – a programme to immunise all the world’s children against polio. Rotary is currently working to raise an additional US$200 million toward a US$355 million challenge grant from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
110 - the number of Rotary World Peace Fellows which are sponsored each year to study at one of the eight universities for International Studies in peace and conflict resolution. Since 2002, 339 fellows from over 75 countries have participated at a cost of more than $23 million.
1,000 – the number of university students who receive Rotary scholarships to study abroad
65,000 – the number of people who have taken part in a Rotary Group Study Exchange (GSE), which enables groups of young professionals aged 25-40 to participate in four-to-six-week exchanges between two countries. GSE teams focus on vocational, educational and cultural development.
8,000 - the number of teenagers who take part each year in Rotary’s Youth Exchange. They study in another country and learn about its history, language and culture each year. They too, serve as goodwill ambassadors and promote world understanding and peace.
486 – the number of university teachers who have participated in the Rotary Grants for University Teachers scheme.
110 – the number of Rotary World Peace Fellowships which are awarded each year. This programme trains future diplomats and international leaders in the art of peace building and conflict resolution.
