Mike Harries (Root Doctors) celebrates 78th in style
Music is the best medicine as far as Mike Harries is concerned.
The veteran Welsh musician celebrated his 78th birthday with a swing at the music and beer festival staged at Cardiff's newest pub, The Cricketers.
The Mike Harries Root Doctors are living legends on the Welsh music scene and they were the stars of the show at the free festival at The Cricketers, just a 'six-hit' away from Glamorgan's Swalec stadium in Cathedral Road.
“The Cricketers was making its bow as a new venue for the very best in live music,” said owner Simon Buckley.
“And having the Mike Harries Root Doctors topping the bill was the icing on the birthday cake for the star of the show.
“Mike Harries is an icon on the Welsh music scene and it was great to see him in such great form – and at 78 years young!
“We hope he’ll be back at The Cricketers again and that the venue will become a popular one for lovers of good music in Cardiff. We hope to have more seasonal music festivals on special occasions in Cardiff.”
The music and beer festival was kicked off by the renowned Acoustic Zeppelin.
“The event lived up to its billing as a real treat for beer and music fans in Cardiff,” said Mr Buckley.
“An estimated 750 people attended. The capital city of Cardiff needs a capital venue with a convivial atmosphere for quality music and I hope that this first festival will be the first of many seasonal events at The Cricketers.”
The festival gave visitors the chance to try some of the award-winning ales from the Evan-Evans brewery in Llandeilo, Carmarthenshire.
Evan-Evans won the True Taste of Wales award for the Cwrw ale last year and there were other seasonal brews on tap for fans of real ale.
The full festival line-up included The Arnolds, Mike Markey and Mick Jones, The Universal Translators and Gos and Andy.
