Council in running for business award
Carmarthenshire County Council has been shortlisted in the same category as retail giant M&S for a National Business Award.
The council is lining up alongside the big-hitter for the Health, Work and Well-being Award.
Others shortlisted for the award include the Metropolitan Police and the Northern Bank.
Staff are now working on a video presentation to present to an independent judging panel, ahead of the glittering awards ceremony at London’s Grosvenor House in November.
Elin Cullen, head of business and specialist services, said: “To be in an award category with such big and well-known organisations is obviously a huge achievement of which we are very proud.
“We have decided to produce a small in-house video to illustrate our service to save on the cost of travelling to London, so we hope this also proves that we can be innovative in our thinking.”
The award entry was based on the council’s commitment to reinforcing the link between healthy staff and improved performance.
The submission spoke of a number of initiatives to improve health and wellbeing of the workforce, including stress management courses and a working group supported on all levels, from directors to trade unions representatives.
The council has received high acclaim over recent months, becoming the first welsh local authority to pick up a Platinum Corporate Health Standard Award from the Assembly for its high standard of work in the fields of health and sustainability.
Cllr Pam Palmer, executive board business manager, said: “This is a prestigious award, and to reach the shortlist you must be able to demonstrate high quality and performance.
“To be competing in the same category as large organisations such as M&S is a fantastic achievement in itself.
“We are very proud of our achievements, and it seems that we have every right to be proud judging by this fantastic recognition.
“We look forward to seeing how we fare.”
