Supporting youth entrepreneurs
Latest news from Carmarthenshire Council's press office -
Young entrepreneurs and micro businesses in rural parts of Carmarthenshire are being offered unique support and guidance to help them develop new business opportunities.
Project officers from a new entrepreneurship programme known as Cyf.le are preparing to host a roadshow of advice sessions which will help future tycoons access training and employment information.
The Cyf.le team can provide guidance for budding entrepreneurs considering setting up a new business and can offer support to enable existing businesses to develop and grow.
Local businesses can also benefit from one to one support and advice from experienced business counsellors who can assist in development and access to grant funds, including the South West Wales Local Investment Fund (LIF). There will also be a chance to discuss business ideas with local entrepreneurs and to learn from their experiences in turning innovative ideas into viable businesses.
The sessions will be held during August in a number of rural areas across Carmarthenshire (see below).
The Cyf.le project has been established to drive future economic prosperity in rural areas by providing support and a positive climate for enterprise and business growth.
Carmarthenshire County Council and its partners secured funding from the Welsh Assembly Government’s Rural Development Plan to deliver the programme, supported by partners Menter Cwm Gwendraeth and Menter Bro Dinefwr, who have provided additional funding.
The £666,015 scheme will run for three years.
Business Development Officer Helen Watts said: “We can offer practical support for young people to enable them to explore opportunities for starting new businesses or entering employment with local businesses.
“By bringing together businesses and talented young people in Carmarthenshire, we are confident there will be mutual benefits from sharing experiences and skills.”
The Cyf.le programme will also see business development officers going in to schools, and youth organisations such as Young Farmers, to help young people wanting to set up their own businesses and give them all the advice they could need.
Business loans will be offered and suitable areas of work will be identified to make sure they are ready for the world of employment.
Businesses can also benefit from one to one support from experienced business counsellors who can assist with grant applications and development.
Cllr Clive Scourfield, executive board member for regeneration, said: “This is a fantastic project specifically aimed at supporting young people and helping them to work with the business community in rural Carmarthenshire.
“We understand the barriers that young people face when developing a business, and with this scheme we hope to give them all the help they need in the early years, which will help them develop sustainable businesses or employment and encourage them to stay in the county.
“These young people will be our business people of our future, and we need to nurture their development.”
