Carmarthenshire gets the standard

Latest news from Carmarthenshire Council’s press office - Investors in People Success
Carmarthenshire has been presented with the Investors in People Standard, becoming the largest local authority in Wales to achieve recognition.
IiP is a nationally recognised and prestigious standard which measures how well an organisation performs through its people.
The award was presented to council chairman Cllr Tyssul Evans by Dr Pat Evans, who has acted as Carmarthenshire’s IiP Advisor, at this week’s meeting of the full council.
Dr Evans praised the progress made by the county council during the two years that she has been involved with a working group of council officers chaired by director of regeneration and leisure Dave Gilbert, and remarked on the corporate approach to people management and development adopted which has resulted in highly motivated staff.
She said: “Recognition by Investors in People means that you have achieved a very high standard of good practice in the way that people’s performance is managed.
“It means that people in the council are better motivated, are fully informed about how they fit in and that they work to their utmost in keeping with the council’s principles, purpose and values.
“What you have today is a re-enthused workforce. Carmarthenshire is now the best practice case study, the flagship for implementing IiP in local government throughout Wales.”
Dr Evans said she wanted to continue to work with the council to build on the progress achieved.
Council leader Cllr Meryl Gravell said: “I am absolutely delighted that we have achieved this. The county council is a huge organisation and it is about how you share a vision. We gel as a council and that’s very important.”
The Investors in People Standard is a business improvement tool designed to advance an organisation’s performance through its people.
The standard measures how well an organisation:-
Plans and includes people at all levels in the planning process
Provides equality of access to learning & development for staff
Sets and communicates standards for managers
Manages and leads people
Recognises the contribution that staff make
Empowers people within the organisation
Evaluates how learning and development improves performance
Looks to improve the way people are managed and developed
As an Investor in People, the council is committed to continuous improvement and a formal review will take place in three years to ensure the Standard is being maintained.
