Taking pride in Carmarthenshire

People with a vested interest in creating a safer, tidier and cleaner Carmarthenshire are being invited to join a successful initiative which could help to make the county the pride of Wales.
Through the Welsh Assembly Government funded Tidy Towns project, community groups can help improve their local environments with support from Keep Wales Tidy and Carmarthenshire County Council; who are already working in partnership to deliver the project in the county.
Project officers employed by Keep Wales Tidy encourage communities to “adopt” local neglected areas and they assist them in undertaking a range of improvement projects such as litter picking, path maintenance, improving access, developing green spaces, wildlife habitat management and many more. Anywhere from beaches and rivers, to towns and villages could fall under the scheme. It is hoped that transforming neglected areas to their former glory will encourage community integration and improve community spirit at the same time.
Existing community groups may be eligible for grant funding from Keep Wales Tidy to help them get set up. Grants can be used to purchase liability insurance, tools, materials, equipment and materials. Any “grass roots” group can apply for the funding, but if any community wishes to apply and is not yet a formalised group, Keep Wales Tidy can help them get set up and running.
Keep Wales Tidy’s project officer for Carmarthenshire Daniel Snaith said: “Tidy Towns is a great way to bring local people together to improve the environment they live in. If anyone has any ideas for local projects, then I would ask them to get in touch with me.”
