Radio station idea for Llanelli - press release
Press release issued today -
All we want for Christmas is a radio station – that’s the wish of two of Llanelli’s best-known media men.
David Hurford and Robert Lloyd have teamed up to float an innovative project aimed to boost Christmas business in Llanelli.
The idea is to launch a temporary radio station - provisionally titled Santa FM - in Llanelli.
“The mission of the station would be simple – to boost business in Llanelli, starting at the time of the annual Christmas carnival and broadcasting in the run-up to the festive holiday,” the duo said this week.
Mr Hurford is a freelance media producer with experience running Llanelli’s Hospital Radio. Mr Lloyd is the former editor of the Llanelli Star and now works as a media consultant.
“We are floating the idea this week with the hope of generating more interest in the project,” the pair said.
“For it to work, it would require the support of Llanelli businesses, the local authorities, the chambers of trade and commerce and, of course, the support of the local community.
“It will need a committed group of people to make the project work. This is not a two-man job. For it to take off, we would need other helpers to come on board.”
The station would take advantage of rules established by Ofcom, the radio licensing authority in the UK.
Ofcom has a facility which allows people to apply for a restricted service licence called an RSL.
Typically, the RSL allows broadcasters a licence to transmit, usually on the FM frequency, for a 28-day period.
“This is ideal for what we would need to raise the profile of Llanelli on the airwaves over the Christmas period,” said Mr Hurford, who first hatched the idea.
Mr Lloyd added: “We are both committed to supporting businesses in Llanelli and we will be delighted to hear what other people out there think about the Llanelli Christmas Radio idea.”
You can contact David (07828073505, email, davehurford@talktalk.net) or Robert (07777683637, email, rlloydpr@btinternet.com) if you think you would like to join the Llanelli Christmas Radio project.
