Alterations being carried out at Llandeilo’s Municipal Offices

Additional works are being carried out at Llandeilo’s Municipal Offices to accommodate a new reception area and the library.
The alterations, more complex than originally anticipated, are expected to be completed by early December. During this time the building will be closed to the public for the necessary works to take place.
The library will be moving from its existing premises across the car park; a new reception area will be created and a new self-service payment kiosk will also be installed.
Customers will be able to use the kiosk to pay their council tax, rent, business rates and invoices etc. It will accept payment by cash, debit / credit card and cheque.
Unfortunately, there will be no public access to the building while the works are being carried out.
Customers that need to make payments during this time have a number of options available to them including making payments online at ilocal.carmarthenshire.gov.wales or by phone either by using the automated 24-hour payment line 01267 679900 or speaking to a cashier during office hours 01267 228686.
They could also set up a direct debit, which is very easy and free to do. Forms are available at the cash desks in Ammanford Town Hall; Spilman Street, Carmarthen and Coleshill Terrace, Llanelli. Alternatively, to set up a new direct debit call 01267 228602 for council tax, 01267 228938 for council rent, 01267 228770 for business rates.
Deputy Leader and Council Business Manager Cllr Pam Palmer said: “We would like to apologise to customers for any inconvenience caused whilst the works are being carried out. Unfortunately additional works were highlighted in the first phase of the alterations and the re-opening is now being scheduled for December 12. Please bear with us as we are doing our best to keep the disruption to a minimum.
“We are looking forward to the opening of the new reception area, with the self-service payment kiosk, and the relocation of the library; which will give residents a more positive customer experience.”
Rent payments can also be made at any Post Office using a rent payment card. To pay council tax at a Post Office (cash only) you will need a replacement bill with a barcode which can be arranged by calling 01267 228686 / 228602 or 01554 742200.

Blue recycling bags and garden waste bags are available from the Spar in New Road and at the library. Trade waste bags can be purchased from the cash desks in Ammanford Town Hall; Spilman Street, Carmarthen and Coleshill Terrace, Llanelli.
The building is scheduled to reopen on Monday, December 12 and the library will remain open at its current location until the week before. Alternative arrangements will be made for library customers during that week.

'Class of 1980' from Burry Port enjoy reunion

There was a big class reunion held in Burry Port at the weekend. Members of the Class of 1980 from Porth Tywyn (Burry Port junior) School got together at The Coasting Pilot pub. The reunion was organised by Christine Rees and same 22 members of the original class of 28 turn up to discuss their old schooldays. One ‘Class of 1980’ member was Burry Port businessman Owain Davies. He said: “We all have very happy memories of our time in school. We had a fantastic teacher in Mr Heddwyn Jones, who now lives in Four Roads. “We were very fortunate to have the same teacher for three years and we were a very happy class. Ammanford-based Lauryn Davey is making a major mark in the world of Welsh athletics. At just 16, she is the best all-round athlete of her age in Wales. She's chalking up Welsh championship victories and has been honoured by her club, the Carmarthen Harriers. Lauryn's been earmarked as a future international star, but knows the road to the big championships is difficult, demanding and expensive. Ammanford businessman and well-known comic entertainer Phil Evans has launched a campaign to get cash backers for Lauryn's athletics career.
