Further to his recent lifetime achievement award in Carmarthenshire for his services to music and Wales, John Hywel Williams and the Hywel Girls’ Choir and Hywel Boy Singers are busy preparing for forthcoming performances.
With their Christmas performances already a sell-out, there has been mounting public pressure from fans and followers for additional opportunities to hear the choir.
As a result, the Hywel Choir have announced an additional concert date for local audiences.
On 24 October, the Hywel Choir will present The Magical Journey of Music at St Elli Parish Church. The candle lit experience will see the Hywel Choir and friends take audiences on a magical journey of song, theatre and narration. Highlights will include a fun adaptation of Prokofiev’s Peter and the Wolf, a bucket banging rendition of Annie, the passion and emotion of West Side Story and Les Miserables as well as cherished classics, favourites from the world of opera and heart-warming sacred sentiments.
An emergency waiting-list for tickets has been put into place for the choir’s sell-out Great Christmas Fantasia on 19 December at Y Ffwrnes which will see the Hywel Choir present their landmark Christmas musical extravaganza.
This year sees the Hywel Choir unite with their resident orchestra the symphonic sounds of the British Sinfonietta Orchestra, soprano Gwawr Edwards, the Llanelli Choral Society and a historic performance by the Grand Reunion Chorus of the Hywel Choir. Eurovision Song Contest Winners Brotherhood of Man will also be returning to Wales to join fellow past-Hywel Choir choristers for this magical night.
Completing a busy weekend, the Hywel Choir will be performing at the Brangwyn Hall Swansea on Sunday 20 December.
The Grand Reunion Chorus of the Hywel Girls’ Choir & Hywel Boy Singers will enjoy a glittering post-performance Supper Ball at Machynys Golf Club on 19 December after their inaugural performance at the Great Christmas Fantasia.
The Llanelli Choral Society are preparing for their musical re-enactment of the Nativity at the heart of the town with massed choirs, orchestra, narration and theatre. The Miracle of Christmas, the first of its kind for the town, will see the Llanelli Choral Society unite with the British Sinfonietta, Hywel Girls’ Choir & Hywel Boy Singers, The Angelicus Chorus of the Hywel Choir, soprano Rhiannon Llewellyn and other artists in the candle lit surroundings of St Elli Parish Church, Llanelli on 28 November.
The immersive retelling of the Nativity will enjoy a musical backdrop of music from Handel’s Messiah, Bach’s Christmas Oratorio, Albinoni’s Adagio for Organ and Strings, O Holy Night and international carols blended with narratives of the Nativity and full costume biblical characters re-enacting the spiritual event.
2016 Llanelli concert dates have been announced for the Hywel Choir and Llanelli Choral Society which include: 16 April Stars and Song - celebrity concert (Y Ffwrnes), 7 May - a Night of the Classics (St Elli Parish Church), 4 June - The Last Night of the Proms (Y Ffwrnes), 9 July - A Night of World Opera (St. Elli Parish Church), 15 October - An Evening with the Hywel Choir (St Elli Parish Church), 3 December - The Great Christmas Fantasia (Y Ffwrnes), 17 December - The Miracle of Christmas (St. Elli Parish Church).

The Vancouver Orpheus Male Choir is part of Vancouver’s thriving community choir scene.
Formed in 1992 for men of all ages who enjoy singing, the choir focuses on popular songs from many times and lands, including Broadway showtunes, spirituals, sea shanties, and rousing male voice classics.
The Orpheus Choir's Fourth CD is called Coming Home and features 16 songs from the current concert repertoire.
Côr Meibion Llanelli musical director Eifion Thomas said: “We are old friends with the choir from Vancouver and we look forward to welcoming them to Wales. They are on a seven-date tour of Wales so the Llanelli concert represents a great chance to listen to our choral colleagues from Canada.”
