Kidwelly making music for the start of 900 year celebrations
Two contrasting concerts in Kidwelly will bring cheery notes to the months of January and February.
The concerts are part of celebrations marking the 900th anniversary of the historic town of Kidwelly.
The celebrations are under the Cydweli 900 banner.
On January 24 at the Princess Gwenllian Hall , beginning at 7.30 pm., the Cwmbach Male Voice Choir from Aberdare will be singing.

This fine choir will be joined by young instrumentalists from Carmarthenshire for an evening of entertainment.
On February 21 at 7.30 in St Mary’s Church, Kidwelly, the brass section of the Royal Welsh College of Music, Cardiff, will be performing.

This outstanding group of musicians will play a wide variety of music from Glen Miller to Handel and Purcell.

Music, sport, drama, and a farm fun day all feature in the first six months of Kidwelly’s celebration of its past and present.
Concerts, innovative drama, a charity football match and a celebratory tea dance, youth opera. a ball and a day of fun at a local farm will all feature.
Events will be a reminder of past traditions and also celebrate the liveliness and community spirit of the present day town.

The game will commemorate one played in 1893 in Kidwelly to raise funds for destitute families whose parents worked at the Kidwelly Tinplate works. It had been closed for many months and families were starving. On that occasion the police won. Any funds raised will go to the Llanelli Food Bank.
Young farmers, led by local farmer Peter Francis, are organizing a Farm Fun Day for local families.
Third Year drama students from Trinity St David will, in May, perform an outdoor production at various venues around Kidwelly.
Kidwelly Mayor Fran Burke–Lloyd commented: “The year will be very special. There will be a lot to enjoy and celebrate about our vibrant community and its unique past.”
