The latest 'On Song' column from the Llanelli Star

The latest 'On Song' column (about the choral scene in and around Llanelli) from the Llanelli Star -

Côr Meibion Llanelli choristers are currently looking forward to their next ‘away day’ in Surrey.
The choir has agreed to make a return visit to Hersham in Surrey on Saturday, July 12.
“Our visit there last year was a great success, with the organisers saying they could have sold tickets for the venue twice over,” said choir chairman Mel Harries.
“On our last visit we raised a huge amount of cash for the Royal Marsden cancer hospital. This year, we will be raising funds for the church roof in Hersham.”
Other events scheduled for the year include a trip to Salzburg in Austria in November.
This year is Côr Meibion Llanelli’s 50th anniversary year.
“It’s a great year to be a member of the choir,” said choir chairman Mr Harries.
“We are always on the look-out for new members. Anyone interested can pop along to one of our weekly rehearsal sessions to meet members and get a feel for what it would be like to be part of our 50th anniversary year.
“In addition, we are also busy recruiting vice-presidents for the choir. There’s a certain amount of prestige involved in being a choir vice-president and anyone interested should contact any of our choristers.”
Côr Meibion Llanelli rehearsals are at Furnace Community Hall in Llanelli, 7pm on Mondays and Thursdays.
Llanelli ladies choir Côr Curiad will be performing at a Gala Concert being organised by the Llanelli Masonic Festival Committee at Ffwrnes Theatre on Saturday, July 19.
The evening will be compered by the hilarious TV comedian Owen Money and will also feature the award winning Burry Port Town Brass Band and the renowned National Eisteddfod winning soloist tenor Richard Allen.
The ladies of Côr Curiad are organising a charity BBQ in The Halfway pub in Llanelli on Sunday, July 6. All family and friends welcome.
The Côr Curiad ladies have also started work on planning their 20th anniversary celebrations next year. The choristers are lining up a special guest artist for the anniversary show, which will be held in the spring.
On July 19, over in Kidwelly, there will be a Trebor Edwards Gala Concert staged by Loud Applause Productions.
The concert is being held at the Princess Gwenllian Centre, Kidwelly, with Theatrau Sir Gar selling tickets on behalf of Loud Applause Productions.
Well known for his rendition of ‘Un Dydd ar y Tro’,Trebor Edwards is one of Wales’s famous lyrical tenors. Surprisingly, he has not performed in the area for a number of years.
Trebor will be joined by the Kidwelly Festival Choir under the baton of Andrew J. Pike and ladies choir Parti Llwchwr and soloist Keely Morgan.
The concert is in aid of Ty Cymorth Hospice at Glangwili General Hospital, Carmarthen.
On Saturday, July 12 Lleisiau’r Hardd will be holding their annual concert at Ffwrnes Theatre, Llanelli.
The programme will include a wide range of music from classical to Welsh songs and contemporary songs plus newly commissioned pieces.
Joining this choir will be local artists Greg Arthur and jazz singer and Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama singer Megan Thomas, the winner of the 2013 Gethin Hughes Memorial Bursary prize.
