Less than four weeks to go to Carmarthen Mayor's Fun Run

There's less than four weeks to go to the annual Carmarthen Town Mayor's Fun Run.
Runners of all ages, shapes and sizes are being encouraged to take part in the Fun Run races on May Bank Holiday Monday.
The event, which has been held in the town over the past 32 years, will take place on the morning of Bank Holiday Monday, May 5.
"This is the 33rd running of the races and we are hoping for a bumper turnout," said race organiser Noelwyn Daniel.
"In particular, we are keen to inject as much fun as possible into the event - encouraging people to take part in fancy dress and asking local sporting teams, organisations, pubs and clubs to consider entering teams.
Mr Daniel added: "The beauty of the Carmarthen Mayor's Fun Run races is that they take place in the heart of the town centre, affording great opportunities for spectators to cheer on the runners.
"We are also encouraging local businesses to enter teams. Businesses can dress up in the corporate colours and logos and earn themselves some free publicity by taking part."
The event has raised thousands of pounds for charity over the years with many local groups and organisations benefiting.
This year the chosen charities are – Glangwili Hospital, Y Delyn Therapeutic Day Services, Cylch Meithryn Caerfyrddin and the ATC
Last year’s charities were - Dr Mz Youth Project, Tŷ Hapus - Tŷ Ni, Myrddin School Special Unit and Carmarthen Visually Impaired Club.
Schools are being contacted and visited by race organisers to encourage the pupils to sign up for the event.
There is the main 5k fun run and a series of junior races.
The junior races cater for school years two to 10. The senior fun run has categories for males and females aged under 40 and 35, and veterans groups for older age groups.
Everyone who completes the course gets a medal. Online entry will open over the next couple of weeks.
The organisers are still seeking race sponsors. Anyone who can help is asked to contact Carmarthen Town Council clerk Selwyn Thomas, emailselwyn@carmarthentowncouncil.gov.uk

Online entry has now opened for the races.
Entry fees remain the same as they were in 2013 with the 5Km Fun Run being £5.00 for affiliated runners and £7.00 for non affiliated.
Children's entry fee has been reduced to £3.00.

Entry Fees are -
Before May 5th:
UK Affiliated runners - £5.00
UK Non Affiliated runners - £7.00
Junior runners - £3.00
Mini Fun Run - £2.00
Wheelchair athletes - £3.00

On the Day Entry Fees :
UK Affiliated runners - £8.00
UK Non Affiliated runners - £8.00
Junior runners - £3.50

There is an additional charge will be made for those entering on the day - this is common practise for most events of this nature. This fee will be £1.00 for adult 5km and 50p for children's races.
