Ponthenri School receives a special prize for its Platinum success

Ponthenri primary School has received a special prize for its Platinum success.
Staff and pupils have received a certificate in recognition of their Platinum status under the Eco Schools programme.
Executive Board Member for Technical Services Cllr Colin Evans went along to the school to deliver the certificate in person.
Carmarthenshire has the highest number of Platinum award winning schools in Wales at 17. It is the highest award possible under Eco Schools - the equivalent to four Green Flags.
Cllr Evans said: “I was very impressed with the work being carried out by staff and pupils at Ponthenri to reduce their carbon footprint and the Platinum award proves just how environmentally-friendly they have become.
“I would like to thank everyone involved for all their hard work and encourage others to take a leaf out of their book.”
The Eco Schools programme is a partnership between the county council, Keep Wales Tidy and the National Botanic Garden of Wales. Pupils study a range of topics such as waste, litter, energy, water, transport, healthy living and global citizenship.
