The latest Llanelli Star 'On Song' column' about the choral scene in and around Llanelli -

Côr Meibion Llanelli (Llanelli Male Voice Choir) will be marking their 50th anniversary in 2014.
Choir chairman Mel Harries said: “This promises to be a very special year in the history of Côr Meibion Llanelli.
“We are planning plenty of special events – and some surprise trips abroad.
“We are always on the search for new members. Anyone who thinks they would enjoy the camaraderie of being part of one of the finest male voice choirs in Wales should come along to one of our practice sessions.
“We hold rehearsals at 7pm on Mondays and Thursdays at Furnace Community Hall.”
Scheduled events for Côr Meibion Llanelli for 2014 so far include –
Saturday, March 15, concert with Bristol Male Choir in Bristol.
Saturday, June 7, Annual Concert at Ffwrnes Theatre with ‘Singverein 1870’, the choir’s ‘twin’ from Laudenbach in Germany.
Saturday, October 18, anniversary dinner with special guests at the Stradey Park Hotel, Llanelli.
Saturday, December 13, Christmas Concert at Ffwrnes, Llanelli.
The singing trio Blake will be at Ffwrnes on Saturday, February 1.
Combining the vocal grandeur of The Three Tenors with the infectious harmonies of The Bee Gees and the comedy of the Rat Pack, Blake will be appearing after major tours in Asia, America and Europe.
They will be performing numbers from their new album ‘Start Over’.
Joining Blake will be classical soprano Natalie Coyle and the Llanelli-based Hywel Girls’ Choir and Hywel Boy Singers under the baton of musical director John Hywel Williams MBE.
There will be a special St David’s Day Gala Concert at Ffwrnes on Saturday, March 1.
The concert will feature The Three Welsh Tenors, the combined Côr Meibion Llanelli and Bridgend Male Choirs, Parti Llwchwr Ladies Choir and the BBC’s Garry Owen as compere.
The Three Welsh Tenors are Aled Hall, Alun Rhys-Jenkins and Rhys Meirion.
Burry Port Male Voice Choir will be holding a Cymanfa Ganu (community singing event) at 7pm on March 9 at Jerusalem Chapel, Burry Port.
The event will raise funds for the Burry Port National Eisteddfod committee in advance of the 2014 Carmarthenshire Eisteddfod to be held in Llanelli.
Pontarddulais Male Voice Choir members are also busy organising their schedule for 2014.
Current events include –
Saturday April 5 - Noel Davies Memorial concert.
Saturday May 3 - Mawr Walking Club Anniversary Concert.
Friday May 9 - National Eisteddfod fundraising.
On Saturday, April 26 (postponed from January 25), there will be a concert at Pontyberem Hall (7pm) in aid of the Sir Gar WI stand at the Carmarthenshire National Eisteddfod.
Guest artists include up and coming tenor Samuel Morris, pianist Sioned Evans and Dyffryn Twyi Male Voice Choir. There will be items from WI members. The compere will be Heini Jones. Tickets are £6.
