The latest 'On Song' column about the choral scene in and around Llanelli from the Llanelli Star -
Fresh from their success at the ‘Night With The Stars’ concert at Ffwrnes theatre, Llanelli, on Saturday, Côr Meibion Llanelli are busy making plans for their 50th anniversary.
“Saturday was an exceptional evening and a real treat for the people of Llanelli,” said Côr Meibion Llanelli musical director Eifion Thomas.
“We still have events on our calendar for 2013, but we are beginning to turn our thoughts to our 50th anniversary year.
“We are hoping to make the 50th anniversary of the choir a special year.”
Scheduled events so far include –
“The choir rehearses at 7pm on Mondays and Thursdays at Furnace Community Hall.”
Remaining events for 2013: December 14, Christmas Concert, Tabernacle Chapel, Llanelli. December 18, concert at Thomas Arms. December 16, Radio service for Prince Philip Hospital, Llanelli.
The ladies of Côr Curiad enjoyed the weekend tour to Tamworth in The Midlands.
Choir spokesman Andrea Matthews said: “We sung at Tamworth Male Voice Choir’s Annual Concert on Saturday at the Assembly Rooms in Tamworth. The event was a sell-out.
“Tamworth Male Voice are old friends. This was our third visit to Tamworth and they have visited us here in the past and sung with us at the old Theatr Elli.
“Côr Curiad are constantly introducing new material and our repertoire for the concert included, Hallelujah, Get Happy (a medley of Get Happy and Oh Happy Day), Something Inside So Strong by Labi Siffre and True Colours, along with Christina Perri’s Jar of Hearts.
“We did not forget our Welsh heritage and sung Sosban Fach and Gwenllian.
“As usual, the choir was in the capable hands of musical director Alex Esney Davies, accompanied by Jane Jewell. We had two firsts! Alex put down her baton and joined four of her choristers for a fabulous version of Jar of Hearts and our youngest member (Alex’s younger sister) 13-year-old Rhiannon Taylor-Searle made her solo debut singing Castle on a Cloud as part of a joint choir ‘Les Mis’ medley.”
On Monday, November 25, Lleisiau Hardd and Lleisiau Hardd Bach will be performing their ‘Winter Warmer Concert’ at the Stradey Park Hotel, Llanelli. It starts at 7pm and tickets are £5.
