The latest 'On Song' column about the choral scene in Llanelli

The latest 'On Song' column about the choral scene in Llanelli (sadly, not used by the Llanelli Star today) -

All eyes will be on the ‘Night With The Stars’ event at Ffwrnes theatre, Llanelli, on Saturday, November 16.
The concert will be in aid of Wales’s pancreatic cancer charity Amser Justin Time and is a sell-out.
Shan Cothi, who set up the charity in memory of her late husband, will be headlining the evening.
Shan will be joined by the very popular baritone Mark Llewelyn Evans. Mark will be performing some songs from his new album ‘This Guy’s in Love’.
The two stars will be supported by Côr Meibion Llanelli, making a welcome return to the theatre after their popular ‘annual concert’.
Also performing will be the young up-and-coming musical theatre star Samuel Morris.
Meanwhile, the ladies of Côr Curiad are off on tour!
Choir spokesman Andrea Matthews said: “We are off to Tamworth to sing at Tamworth Male Voice Choir’s Annual Concert on Saturday at the Assembly Rooms in Tamworth. We have been advised they are preparing to put up the ‘sold out’ notices!
“Tamworth Male Voice are old friends. This is our third visit to Tamworth and they have visited us here in the past and sung with us at the old Theatr Elli.
“This time it is a challenge, with the choirs singing together for the whole of the second half of the concert. It’s quite a feat to learn music at 200-plus miles apart!
“Côr Curiad are constantly introducing new material and our repertoire for this concert includes, Hallelujah, Get Happy (a medley of Get Happy and Oh Happy Day), Something Inside So Strong by Labi Siffre and True Colours, along with Christina Perri’s Jar of Hearts.
“We have not forgotten our Welsh heritage and will be singing Sosban Fach and Gwenllian.
“As usual, the choir will be in the capable hands of musical director Alex Esney Davies and will be accompanied by Jane Jewell. On this occasion, we have two firsts! Alex will be putting down her baton and joining four of her choristers for a fabulous version of Jar of Hearts and our youngest member (Alex’s younger sister) 13-year-old Rhiannon Taylor-Searle will be making her solo debut singing Castle on a Cloud as part of a joint choir ‘Les Mis’ medley.”
Burry Port Male Voice Choir will have a very special guest for their concert in the Memorial Hall in the town on Saturday.
Pembrey’s very own rising star, the baritone Gary Griffiths, will be one of the featured artistes at the Royal National Lifeboat Institute (RNLI) concert at the hall, 7.30pm, Saturday, November 16.
Burry Port Male Voice, founded in 1962, will be under the musical supervision of Ryan Lee, who is only the seventh conductor in more than 40 years of the choir.
Gary Griffiths is a true local hero. The winner of the Welsh Singers Competition in 2012, Gary represented Wales in the 2013 BBC Cardiff Singer of the World Competition.
Also appearing at the RNLI concert will be Only Boys Aloud and tenor Richard Allen, who is always a great favourite with Burry Port audiences.
On Monday, November 25, Lleisiau Hardd and Lleisiau Hardd Bach will be performing their ‘Winter Warmer Concert’ at the Stradey Park Hotel, Llanelli. It starts at 7pm and tickets are £5.
