The latest 'On Song' column from the Llanelli Star -
Côr Meibion Llanelli members are enjoying a well-deserved summer break, with rehearsals at Furnace Hall not due to start back until Monday, September 2.
It will then be ‘all systems go’ for the choir as they perform for the Devynock Agricultural Society in Sennybridge on Sunday, September 8.
The following Thursday (September 12), the choir travel to perform at Paderborn and Sennelager in Germany for a special Britfest for the Queen’s Dragoon Guards.
On Saturday, September 21, Côr Meibion Llanelli will travel to perform in Brailes in The Cotswolds, paying a return visit to old friends in the community near Banbury.
On Sunday, October 12, a concert is scheduled for Llanelli Hospice.
The following weekend, Saturday, October 19, will see the choir perform at the first Gethin Hughes Memorial Bursary Concert at Greenfield Chapel in Llanelli.
Friday, November 15, sees the choir perform at their ‘annual fixture’ for the Llanelli Hospice Appeal Festival of Light in the St Elli Shopping Centre.
On November 16, Côr Meibion Llanelli will be taking part in a glamorous evening with the stars in Ffwrnes. The concert will be in aid of Wales’s pancreatic cancer charity Amser Justin Time. Shan Cothi, who set up the charity in memory of her late husband, will be headlining the evening.
Shan will be joined by the very popular baritone Mark Llewelyn Evans. Mark will be performing some songs from his new album ‘This Guy’s in Love’. Also performing will be the young up and coming musical theatre star Samuel Morris.
Saturday, December 14, sees Côr Meibion Llanelli’s annual Christmas Concert at Tabernacle Chapel, Llanelli.

Other future events - Llanelli’s Hywel Girls’ Choir and Hywel Boy Singers will enjoy two performances at the magnificent St. David’s Hall Cardiff later this year. They will star in the Wales Festival of Remembrance in November and in the Christmas Spectacular at St. David’s Hall Cardiff in December in aid of Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research.
The ladies of Côr Curiad are looking forward to their ‘winter tour’ to Tamworth in Staffordshire. The choristers will be the guests of Tamworth Male Voice Choir on the weekend of November 15-17.
Burry Port Male Voice Choir: September 14, Children in Need Charity Concert 7pm, Ffwrnes Theatre, Llanelli, organised by the Hywel Girls’ choir. October 7, Charity Concert, Hippodrome Theatre, Roath Park, Cardiff.
Llanelli charity choir 100 Voices will be performing at Ffwrnes theatre on August 30 and 31. 100 voices is a charity choir set up by Dale Francis in memory of his mother and brother. It will initially perform concerts to raise funds for Cancer Research and The Welsh Guards benevolent fund. The aim is to grow the charity for the greater good of the people of Llanelli and in the future it will donate monies to smaller worthwhile causes in the Llanelli area, be they individuals or groups. This concert is the first of many and is the launchpad for the 100 voices charity choir.
