Carmarthenshire A level pupils top of the class!
Carmarthenshire pupils are top of the class with their A level exam results compared to the Welsh average.
Some 98.6% of students gained an A* to E grade compared with the Welsh average of 97.6%.
The results show a continuation of the high standards set in previous years, with 100% pass rates in many subjects.
In the combined top grades of A* and A, Carmarthenshire pupils again beat the national average with 23.5% gaining the grades, compared to 22.9% nationally.
Carmarthenshire had a pass rate of 100% for Welsh, both first and second language, higher again than the national average.
They also scored 100% in English language and literature, history, art and design, and business studies – again an achievement above the all-Wales results.
Education executive board member Cllr Keith Davies said: “Carmarthenshire County Council wishes to congratulate the large number of students who have achieved exceptional standards in this year’s WJEC “A” & "AS" Level GCE results after two years of hard work.
“Whilst paying tribute to their efforts and success, the council also wishes to acknowledge the dedication and support given to them by their schools, teaching and support staff and, naturally, the parents for whom today will be a proud day.
“Their success is reflected in the very positive comparison to all-Wales figures in very many subjects and the continued high standards achieved reflects the commitment of this authority through its schools, colleges and support services in ensuring our young people are afforded every opportunity to achieve their full potential.”
Positive features at ‘AS’ level show continued success in a range of subjects. Of particular note this year is the continued positive proportion of pupils gaining an A to E grade with 89.1% passing compared to the Welsh average of 86.2%. Director for education and Children’s Services Rob Sully said: “These figures represent considerable effort and achievement by individual students, all of whom deserve our warmest congratulations.
These positive results provide further evidence that learners within Carmarthenshire reach their full potential in a supportive environment.”
