Spotlight on the Garnwen Trust in Maesteg

It was nice to have the company of human resources and business consultant Simon Goldsworthy at the St David's Day breakfast at The Vale resort hotel earlier this month.
Simon has now brought me up to speed with the work of the Garnwen Trust in Maesteg. He's a trustee of the charity.
Here's his description of what the charity does -
The Garnwen Trust is a local charity set up by the parents, family and friends of Alex Collins and Bethan Jones, a young boyfriend and girlfriend, who were killed in the 2007 Thai aircrash.
Their parents’ lost their only children instantly at age 22.
Since their loss the family, friends and the wider community in Maesteg and the Llynfi Valley have set about creating a fitting and lasting legacy for Alex and Bethan.

The initial target was to build and operate a facility in the picturesque Afan Agroed Forestry area, an area renowned for walking, cycling and other outdoor activities near the town of Maesteg.
The facility will be for the use of the wider public but specifically designed for use by disabled members of the community.
To date, the Trust has raised more than £100,000 (it’s been a slog) towards the completion of its first project.

Planning consents and building design are well underway and an initial date for completion in 2013 has been set.
The successful completion of the facility will be, we hope, the first of many projects planned by the Garnwen Trust aimed towards helping local youth.
