Charity evening puts spotlight on art and food

There's a charity cheese and wine evening at Myddfai Community Hall and Visitor Centre, near Llandovery, on Friday, from 5-8pm.
The evening will see a viewing of "Works of Art for all Seasons" by local artist Shirley Ennis.
Proceeds from the event will go towards the cardiac units at Glangwili and Morriston hospitals and the Myddfai Ty Talcen Charity.
Margaret Rees, of the Welsh School of Artisan Food, a renowned and award winning chef and successful restaurateur, will be presenting Carmarthenshire Artisan Cheese and Wine at the evening.
She will also be displaying Local Artisan Cheese Celebration Cakes or Cheese towers suitable for events such as weddings, anniversaries and Christmas.
For more information see the website www.welshartisanfood.co.uk or email welshartisan@gmaiI.com.
Shirley Ennis studied under Victor Pasmore and Richard Hamilton (the father of Pop Art) at Newcastle upon Tyne, University of Durham, graduating with an Honours Degree in Fine Art.
She has painted throughout her teaching career as Head of the art departments at Maes yr Yrfa and Gwendraeth schools in Carmarthenshire.
Since retirement, Shirley has had more time to develop and evolve her stylistic versatility using different media.
Originally influenced by cubism, subject matters have varied from the nude to latest oil canvasses of sinuous plant forms. As a regional artist she is inspired by rural and seaside scenes of the beautiful Welsh countryside - works of art for all seasons.
Tickets cost £10 from Myddfai Shop - email les@myddfai.org or tel: 01550 720449/ 07879 119223.
Some tickets may be available at the door.
