‘Love Food, Hate Waste' pledge in Carmarthenshire

Residents in Carmarthenshire have made a pledge to ‘Love Food, Hate Waste'.
The council’s waste awareness team were at the Carmarthen Food Festival to encourage residents to reduce the amount of food they throw away and save money.
In total, 100 people made a pledge to reduce their food waste by looking at better portion control, planning their meals and storing their food correctly as well as using date labels and trying out recipes for leftover food.
In return, they received a ‘Love Food Hate Waste’ goodie bag, courtesy of Waste Awareness Wales, which included a spaghetti measurer, fridge thermometer, bag clip, rice measurer, lunch box and measuring spoon set all in a reusable cloth shopping bag.
Council waste minimisation/recycling officer Karen Fulham said: “Over a month, the average family throws away up to £50 of food, but the good news is we can all do something about it. There are many quick and easy ways you can reduce the amount of food you throw away. By make a pledge you can start getting even more value from the food you buy.”
