Aizlewood takes over at Carmarthen Town

The task of saving Carmarthen Town AFC from relegation from the Welsh Premier League has been handed to former Welsh international Mark Aizlewood.
Aizlewood has been appointed manager. He took up the reins this weekend at a training session in Carmarthen.
He will be supported by player-coach Neil Smothers in the new management team at Richmond Park.
The changes follow the dismissal of Tomi Morgan before Christmas.
The ‘Old Gold’ currently share the bottom place in the Welsh Premier League with Newtown.
This is the third time 52-year-old Aizlewood has been associated with Carmarthen Town.
Aizlewood played 39 times for his country.
Aizlewood’s playing career started when he joined his home-town club, Newport County in 1975 as a defender, before joining Luton Town. He moved on to Charlton Athletic in 1982 and won his first Welsh cap four years later, making 39 appearances in all.
He also played for Leeds United, Bradford City, Bristol City, Cardiff City, Merthyr Tydfil, Aberystwyth Town and Cwmbran Town before hanging-up his boots in 2002 after making 499 Football League appearances and 81 (+18) in the domestic league.
Aizlewood first joined the coaching staff at Carmarthen in 2003/4 as assistant to Andrew York, leaving to become assistant manager of Chester City, but later returned to the Old Gold as assistant to Deryn Brace and became the club's academy director, before departing again in September 2009 to pursue business interests.
Club chairman Gareth Jones said: “We welcome Mark back to Richmond Park. He knows we face a big battle ahead to avoid relegation, but our executive committee is sure that he is up to the task.”

There was a big class reunion held in Burry Port at the weekend. Members of the Class of 1980 from Porth Tywyn (Burry Port junior) School got together at The Coasting Pilot pub. The reunion was organised by Christine Rees and same 22 members of the original class of 28 turn up to discuss their old schooldays. One ‘Class of 1980’ member was Burry Port businessman Owain Davies. He said: “We all have very happy memories of our time in school. We had a fantastic teacher in Mr Heddwyn Jones, who now lives in Four Roads. “We were very fortunate to have the same teacher for three years and we were a very happy class. Glangwilli Hospital specialist wins top award from Wales Deanery

A top doctor at Glangwili General Hospital has been honoured by the Wales Deanery at an event hosted by the British Medical Association (BMA) in Cardiff’s Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. Dr Madhuri Kodliwadmath, Associate Specialist in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, was rewarded for her excellence in clinical service. All Welsh doctors and dentists in training were asked to nominate a consultant, GP, dentist or staff and associate specialty grade doctor, who they believed performed outstandingly. The awards are part of the ‘Supervising the Route to Excellence’ programme which aims to ensure excellence in medical training through the development and support of high quality educational, clinical supervisors and trainers throughout Wales.
