Special holiday event for Ammanford

A special school holiday event is taking place in Ammanford during the Whitsun holiday.
Stay Play and Plan your Way is an all day event being held at Ysgol Y Bedol, Garnant, on Tuesday, May 31, during the half-term holidays.
Families are being invited along to enjoy free opportunities for play supported by the Carmarthenshire Children’s Partnership.
Entertainment and refreshments funded by Genesis Sir Gar, a European Social Funded project through the Welsh Assembly Government, which aims to improve life for local families.
Genesis co-ordinator Estelle Etheridge-Lawrence: “Children will be able to enjoy free face painting and glitter tattoos, try their hands at balloon modelling, wear themselves out on a bouncy castle and have fun and games with Theeko the Clown.
“Meanwhile, parents and guardians will be able to get information and support on planning a brighter future with guidance on entering a supported career pathway of training, education, volunteering and employment.”
The event forms part of the Y Bedol Campaign, which was launched in March.
The campaign is a massive drive to engage with parents and lone parents who are unemployed and economically inactive, by supporting and guiding them towards employment.
Y Bedol is a steering group made up of partner organisations such as the Carmarthenshire Family Information Service, Genesis Sir Gar, Ammanford Job Centre Plus, Dyfed Powys Police, Coleg Sir Gar, Carmarthenshire Language and Play, and Family Goals, to name just a few.
Local parents have been introduced to a weekly menu of taster courses and activities including Zumba classes, language and play, cookery skills, art classes, health and beauty sessions, baby yoga, IT skills and job interview techniques, as well as the free weekly use of the Ysgol Y Bedol gym.
Whilst picking up new skills and gaining renewed confidence, a range of professionals are at hand to advise parents on issues such as employment, benefits, training, volunteering, education, parenting, basic skills, child care, family support, health and wellbeing and child safety.
The provision of a mobile crèche has complemented the programme and given parents the opportunity to experiencing free quality childcare provision, funded by Family Goals, BIG, ESF and WAG.
Child care has also been funded by Genesis Sir Gar.
Cllr Gwynne Wooldridge, executive board member for children and family services, said: “This engagement with the local community demonstrates a commitment to alleviating child poverty, promoting well being and improving regeneration in Carmarthenshire.”
