New resource centre for council tenants

Council housing tenants in the Llanelli area are being invited to drop in to a new Tenant Resource Office, which has been set up in the town.
Carmarthenshire County Council has set up the facility within its Hafan Y Morfa Sheltered Scheme, in Station Road.
The resource office is open five days a week, from 10am to 1pm, and allows housing tenants to drop in and speak to housing and tenant participation officers, as well as tenant executive members which represent tenants and work closely with council officers.
Members of tenant and resident associations can also use the office to hold small meetings and access office equipment.
Tenant Debbie Pearce said: “Since the resource office has been open, far more tenants have visited us to utilise the equipment and book the meeting room. Housing services staff are available to hold surgeries with tenants on a wide range of issues. Tenants can also meet tenant executive members to share information and get guidance on local events and training courses on offer.
“We also work closely with the respective Communities First officers at the resource office to secure funding for schemes to improve the communities.”
Llanelli area housing manager Les James added: “Opening a Tenant Resource Office in this area makes services far more accessible to many of our tenants.
“We hope it will encourage more participation and involvement from tenants, who we regularly seek to include when developing new services and strategies.
“We also hope that having such services on their doorstep will encourage tenants to think about setting up their own tenant and resident associations and groups to work together on raising issues that affect them, knowing that they have the support of our officers close at hand.”
The opening of the Tenant Resource Office was attended by members of the community and Lakefield School Choir provided a musical recital.
Scarlets player Emyr Phillips also attended and donated a signed Scarlets shirt for a tenants’ raffle.
Housing Executive Board Member Cllr Hugh Evans said: “Previously, if tenants needed this kind of support they would have to visit one of our council offices, but we were keen to take that support to their doorstep. Our aim is to make it easier for tenants to get involved with housing services, as they provide vital information and feedback when we are developing and improving our services.”
The Tenant Resource Office is open Monday-Friday, 10am-1pm. Contact 01554 744003 for further information.
