Pantyffynnon volunteers go digging

In celebration of this year’s Make a Difference Day, volunteers from the community of Pantyffynnon went digging.
In collaboration with Wrenvale Nurseries, Communities First Pantyffynnon organised this event to highlight the importance volunteering can make to the community, and to the lives of the people who volunteer.
According to The Institute of Volunteering Research, volunteering currently adds huge value to the economy with an estimated contribution annually of £22.5billion, and a total contribution of 1.9 billion volunteer hours.
Development worker Emma Martin-Jewell said: “The volunteers we work with in the community on the variety of projects we support are essential to the success of the Communities First Programme.
“To demonstrate the difference this can make on the ground, we decided to organise Make a Difference Day again this year.”
The community has got stuck in with planting bulbs in readiness for the spring, in previous years, as well as planting hanging baskets with Wrenvale across the ward of Pantyffynnon.
Residents this year, decided to bring some colour to the playing fields of Parcyrhun estate.
Resident and volunteer June Bowen said: “It was great to be a part of this event and see the children and others work as a team to help brighten up the area.
“I can’t wait to see all the colour come out in the spring, and know I was part of that.”
Regeneration Executive Board Member Cllr Clive Scourfield said: “The Communities First team performs a vital role in the area and I am delighted that the team is promoting the benefits that volunteering brings both the local community and the volunteers themselves.”
